The Magician Tarot Card Meaning
The Magician tarot card means willpower and skill: you have the tools, and it's time to use them. Card one of the Major Arcana is the deck's green light for turning an idea into action.
Quick facts
- Number: 1, Major Arcana
- Upright: skill, self-confidence, focused will
- Reversed: scattered focus, disquiet, talent misused
What The Magician means
The Magician channels energy from above into real results below. On the table in front of him sit all four suit symbols: the wand, cup, sword, and pentacle. Every tool the deck has to offer, already in reach. Drawing this card says the same about you: the skills are present, so focus your will and make the thing.
The Magician reversed
Reversed, the power scatters: confidence wobbles, focus slips, or skill gets used for showmanship instead of substance. The fix is usually narrowing to one intention. (More on reading reversals.)
What's on the card
One hand lifts a wand to the sky, the other points to the earth, the classic "as above, so below" pose. An infinity sign floats overhead: the energy on tap doesn't run out, it just needs directing.
The Magician in a daily draw
A day to create rather than wait. Back yourself, pick the one idea that matters, and act on it. If you'd like a card like this dealt to you every morning, the Toe Bean Tarot app's daily draw does exactly that, on Google Play (iPhone coming soon).
The Magician is stop one on the Fool's Journey, right after The Fool and just before The High Priestess. The full deck is in all 78 tarot card meanings.
